Well, I’ve decided to stop being a silent observer and finally put pen to pad, so to speak.
I’m not sure what I can do and what I can’t do, so I thought I’d put it out and see if maybe there’s some of you who have experience with this type of situation,. I’m on a load which originally when I booked it it was legal. Come to find out it’s 9’6” wide. I buy permits as quick as possible. I tell the agent I need more money and let him know how much I was looking to ask for. He replied with a counter offer under the agreement the rate on be changed to reflect Friday as the delivery and add in the daily amount I required for detention if I did not get unloaded on Friday. He said he’s got me covered, so I proceed ordering permits and get loaded.
24 hours out I get a message stating from the broker I have a 2 pm appointment. Friday, morning of delivery about 5 hours out I’ll call the consignee and let them know eta. When I get in touch they inform me they can’t unload me today and they had specifically told the broker it would be Wednesday. So, I asked when to which they responded Thursday.
Since I’ve been onsite, I’m getting no response from the broker or agent concerning detention. I feel like sitting on it until I get paid or confirmation I will be paid.
what can I do without getting myself in trouble or breaking the law
.
Detention and our obligations?

Don't load next time till you get a revised rate con. And really, you should've called the shipper and receiver to confirm all details before moving the truck.
You earned it this timeMABYMACA, wore out, Diesel Dave and 2 others Thank this. -
Sounds to me like the shipper lied to get somebody there and hoped they’d say “#### it” and roll with it.MABYMACA, Magoo1968 and Diesel Dave Thank this.

I'd think shippers want happy customers first and foremost, and second, no rodeos and rate haggling with pissy drivers.
IDK, Calling works for me. If I've been lied to, they're freight ain't ridin with me for any money.chimbotano, MABYMACA and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
I would take the lose and learn from it. You rushed it and the broker lied to you(nothing new). You should’ve confirmed with the shipper and receiver before hand. It’s a long shot and don’t recommend it but call a bluff at the broker and tell him your going to disappear with the load until detention is added but you will probably even loose more time. Pick your poison

100%, I always get contact numbers on both ends to confirm. Been in this long enough to know better.tscottme Thanks this.

Always, always get an updated rate con.
tscottme Thanks this. -
You’re absolutely correct. The first thing I thought was that I had told the agent I wanted it on the rate on, but then accepted it wasn’t and rolled with it anyway.Big Road Skateboard Thanks this.

Ya know, I thought about this thread last night as I spent an hour backing down some Colorado switchbacks because I didn't ask directions while on the phone with a contractor about a jobsite delivery.
The shipper gave me turn by turn directions and coordinates.
I didn't verify. I earned it tootscottme, Diesel Dave and Speedy356 Thank this.
