Detroit 60 Series - Loss of Power

    Had that problem with my cousin's columbia. Doesn't get power steep grade when loaded fully to 79k lbs.

    I have a 1997 Peterbuilt with a Detroit Diesel Series 60 and its doing the same thing. I don't know what else to do any help would be appreciated.

    My detroit diesel is losing power also. It starts to run great then after about 3 to 4 miles it starts fluttering then no matter what gear I'm in it doesn't give me the power I need. No codes on the computer and its not the ecm.

    That sounds like a fuel restriction.

    What type of fuel filter does the eng. have screw on or the see thru type?

    Yes to all those questions motor and head just completely rebuilt 5 weeks, 11800 miles ago

    Check your overhead adjustments they are needed every 100,000 miles. It Wil cause Jake's to seem weak or flutter. Also check Jake solenoids.

    In order to try and help we will need more info from you. A complete list of the symptoms and when they started appearing. engine make and year. and what has been done to it.

    Its all a process of elimination really if your DIY i'd try either the fuel filters or the air filter a batch of dirty fuel can really clog up your fuel filter when its doing its job which will also restrict your fuel intake same with the air filter if this hasn't been changed in years its amazing how much restricting air has on your engine performance and power failing that i'd get a qualified auto technician to do a proper diagnostics test on it.
