    I found some good deals on 2012 Freightliners that are between 450K-600K miles. The ones with lower miles are Detroit DD13 engines while the trucks in the 600K range are DD15 engines.

    I'm not familiar with the differences between these two engines. Any insight on these engines?

    DD13 = 13 litre engine. DD15 = 15 litre engine. They're both good motors .

    DD13 is less power but a better motor overall more reliable and longer lasting.

    Many of the DD15s are plagued with problems.

    Me, personally, I've had better luck with the DD15. Has a lot more power.

    I drive a company truck with a DD13 and has 552K miles on it (2012 Freightliner M2 three axle day cab). I'm a new driver and can't speak about the DD15 as I've never driven a truck with that engine yet, but from my very limited experience so far...
    My truck can pull a trailer with 44,000 lbs no problem, it does slow down going up inclines with that weight of course.

    The truck seems to be fairly economical, I can drive my truck for days before I need to re-fuel, I can't remember how many gallons the fuel tanks are, but they're pretty small and that truck does a lot of work with minimal fuel usage.

    I very rarely do this, the truck can get up to 70 mph easily when I need to pass.

    The truck is really quiet compared to other trucks

    What ?
    You can not be serious.
    Going to need to figure out tank size(s) and actual mpg numbers .

    Hmm,....
    I think the DD13 has a carbon block to boot. A bit lighter.

    If all you are doing is considering price and mileage, you may want to rethink buying a truck.

    You'll need something properly spec'd for the job you want to do. A 15 litre motor is necessary to pull heavy weights up big hills, but becomes a waste in a van puller running flat ground.

    What are you hauling and where?

    yes does make a big difference if your hauling heavy loads up some steeper mountain ranges the extra horse power will come in handy if your mainly running mid west south west with flat country you can run with a lot less horsepower.
