Detroit Series 60 12.7 gasket placement

Hi
I am rebuilding my series 60 Detroit 12.7 engine. Got a new head and gasket. So the gasket has a little "v" on one end. I forgot to look which way was top but did notice when I put mine on that the "v" is in the back of the engine not the front. On the old gasket the " top" is by the "v" so would have came from the front. Am I good or not to leave the "v" towards the back? Or am I on upside down and it needs to change? Or does it even matter? To me both sides look and feel and fit the same.
