i have a 96 freightliner that is strating to have some problems. I'm looking for a more cost effective way of repairs. First i was wondering if anyone knows how I get get a good diesel mechanics book, for example a text book or something that they teach diesel mechanics with in schools. I want to go to school for this but can not right now. I just thought it might help out a little bit. Secondly, I was wondering on a good place to get good reliable parts from new or used. For example I may need a new radiator, and don't wanna pay the "TOP dollar" for one any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here are a couple of books that someone I know that went to diesel mechanic school recommends
Heavy Duty Truck Systems, by Sean Bennett costs about $115
Heavy Duty Truck Systems, by Andrew Norman costs about $125
Diesel Technology: Fundementals of Service and Repair by Andrew Norman costs about $55
Hope this helps -
