I have been using the red Lucas grease for my 5th wheel, but I’m noticing it stiffens in cold weather. It’s much harder to pump it out of my hand grease pump. I’m thinking perhaps to switch to the green Lucas grease. Any thoughts?
Different 5th wheel grease for winter?

Winter months we switch to an NLGI #1 vs the normal #2 in pretty much everything.

I've been using their bottle lube. The oil kind. It works much better and lasts longer then the grease.
I keep the bottle inside the truck to keep warm.Diesel Dave, truckdriver31, Dino soar and 1 other person Thank this. -
As far as putting the stuff on, @PE_Trans , I don’t use a gun, I have a putty knife I keep in a ziplock baggy and a tube. As the tube get lower, I can use the putty knife to cut the tube down, and I can still get the cap back on the tube. Done it this way for years.D.Tibbitt, truckdriver31, HoneyBadger67 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Why waste money on grease? Just use the windshield squeege and clean the 5th wheel real good and u wont have any problems

Since you pull the same trailer all the time I’d get a Teflon plate for your 5th wheel.
truckdriver31 and PE_T Thank this. -
My 5th wheel don't have an adjustment.
I don't have to lube it as much as the grease. Or as often. Or have to use tools to slob grease on.
Tip bottle upside down and squeeze.
Grease just mushes out the sides. Makes a mess and what's left dries out in a week.
Lube bottle don't do that. And will last a couple of weeks. One bottle lasts me 2 months.PE_T, D.Tibbitt, truckdriver31 and 1 other person Thank this. -
-20 to -30 I keep a old squeeze bottle filled with drain oil. Squirt a little on before hooking up..
Works very well,as it mixes with the grease and keeps the grease from getting too stiff. -
OLDSKOOLERnWV, RubyEagle, kylefitzy and 6 others Thank this.
