I'm saving up for a truck so I can become an owner operator hopefully sometime next year, and I'm doing research on some carriers to maybe lease on with. One of the carriers I'm considering (Bruce Oakley) requires a 5 year or newer lightweight truck under 18k, which puts a kink in my plans since I wanted to get an older truck because it would cost less and not have as much computer crap in it. But Bruce Oakley does offer a nice pay package (at least on paper), so I'm curious if there are any trucks from 2022 onwards that do not have the collision mitigation system, lane assist, and all that in them? The truck I'm driving now (a 2017 Volvo, working for another owner-operator) doesn't have any of that and it's lovely, I can't imagine going back to sensor hell. Plus it seems most newer mid-roof trucks pulling a bulk trailer are either a Pete or a KW, and I really wanted to avoid PACCAR, but maybe I can get one with a Cummins?
Also, are there any lightweight trucks that have double bunks? I was hoping my daughter could come with on over the road sometimes once I have my own truck.
Do any newer trucks come without the collision mitigation system?

I bought my '23 Cascadia 3yrs ago new off the lot at a dealership & it has none of that BS safety stuff on it.
Although it is a custom ARI sleeper, apparently they were still able to order base chassis without at that time. -
I have 3 more coming without it but interesting what Chris said above.

New regulation or insurance companies requiring this?
-
I just checked goole AI and they say it is not so. I cannot find any articles say the suicide brake system is required at any date,

New regulations starting with 2027 builds.Siinman, D.Tibbitt and FullMetalJacket Thank this.

Check with Oakley and see if they require it. The supreme court broker liability case will have deep reaching trickle down effects. Brokers and shippers are going to require the "safest" equipment that they can hire to reduce their exposure to risk.. Brokerages and 3PL's are purging their lists of carriers that they will use. A case settled in 2021 against Navistar and Rush Truck Centers, was based on the fact that the truck involved in an accident did not have collision mitigation technology, installed in it, even though it was an available option .
Insurance policies may also require it. Do your research.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
My 27 doesn’t have it, tried ordering the lower abs package and couldn’t even get that though
where are you located? I’ve never heard any numbers from Oakley guys that made me even remotely interestedD.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
