Putting 3 guys in a truck is not about training. It a great way to make money. That's were the driver shortage come from. If they really wanted to train new drivers they could invest time and run them solo. So the trainer can actually help a new driver. If you want to make money. Just imagine having a big fleet of trucks and all the drivers running for cheap because they are all new. You could really make some money.
Do I believe the news or you all?

Shortage of Pay most likely among other things.
Losses of cultural and whatever it was we were prior to deregulation.
The news is off one script down through layers of Media daily. Some have their own agenda and never deviates from it. The only time I get to paying attention is during about 3 days or so prior to a US Military attack when they all snap over towards war talk as they have done since Vietnam. Growing up I recall Vietnam on our news in color at times within hours of the actual recording on the battlefield. Today it's near instant.
There will always be drivahs. Like dishwashers until machine language become human running robots in sufficient mass to eliminate the driver as a greater cost item to be removed from trucking company expenses. But you will need minimum wage CDLs to take these things to and from the street to dock.
Even when Hawaii was given a cold war era notices of nuclear attack coming at them over the media they did not handle the situation well at all. Some within 20 minutes realized on the internet that someone has probably made a colossal screw up. And eventually it was known that the persons were replaced and there were some changes in that type of process. If you cannot believe the news in Hawaii that day what do you believe? only your own eyes and ears.
Finally but not least, the Media does not contain anything that is actionable by anyone in the real world. If they say that there was a accident with fatals etc here or there then only those who were kin etc would be the most affected, for the rest of us its a traffic problem to be bypassed. ho hum. Errors in media reporting or even better, omissions are common. If you had a Baltimore knifing or killing in a particular corner where one race is responsible for it, you will never see that media specifically state that. They will bend over backwards to avoid the descriptions of the attackers etc.
There was a time when the Media as it were was a useful part of a day, however those days has gone by for decades. Noise is what I call them. Any time a Media says this that or whatever happened you end up double checking that elsewhere online usually. If not within our National Media but sometimes overseas through Google Translate if you cared enough to do your own fact checking. You might even find the internet somewhat restricted or blocked entirely by certain countries unwilling to allow their own peoples freedom to communicate.
I could go on, however the Media is not going away anytime soon. And so they are tolerated as either entertainment or as a form of feeding those who have to have their daily dose of whatever. Local television content comes to mind with this. Most of it is rubbish and always will be. Mindless zombiefying rubbish. Satellite etc is not much better. 70% is generally reruns. Several times a year they release new content. And if you thought local news is bad, pay tv news is even worse in some cases. Bleah.joshlilou Thanks this. -
It would be so nice if we could go back to the days when rates were regulated. The free market blows.

Employee problems is not just trucking. None of these millennials want to work,
Kind of hard to call in and say I can’t work today when your 500 miles from home, and then being expected to work 7 days a week.
Every business can’t keep employees, no one wants to work, but they all want a check.bzinger, HopeOverMope, jamespmack and 5 others Thank this. -
Who wants to work 70+ hours every week, that's the problem I think. Then everyone hides behind safety or it legal so keep driving. Then the promise of big money. I worked for a big fleet with red trucks long time. They told me they get their average driver pay by how many drivers they have and how much their payroll is. They might have 6,000 trucks/drivers and pay out $360,000,000 in year in payroll. That's average pay of $60,000. What they really had because they have 100% turnover was 12,0000 drivers in a year and payroll of $360,000,000 that $30,000 average driver pay. I think they know exactly what they are doing.

There is a truck driver shortage. There is also an abundance of fat, sloppy steering wheel holding embarrassments waddling out of the truck stops with six bags full of food.
