I worked for Kayco auto transport out of slc in the 90s when urs came along and bought them. Everything was fine prior to the purchase. Good pay, good rounds in the West, home weekends, and a new truck. When us took over they pulled me out of my new truck, sent me to Texas hauling loads within the state, and east. Days off at a time waiting on auctions to get over to see if I was lucky enough to get a load. I left urs as soon as I could and never looked back. They may be different now, but I'll never go back. If you go that route. Good look.

Phew.. Been reading all the goods and bads from the front page and I'm still undecided whether I should do 1099 wit o/o from fleetcar or working as company driver wit URS. Anybody has a brighter insight on these 2 company? Like a picture of their check or something? It would help so much. Thank you!

1099 is usually a terrible option since whoever you are working for doesn't treat you as the "employee" that you are.
If this is a Lease Purchase deal then that is different.
Have you run the numbers on what you will pay in additional taxes as a 1099? Also you need to factor in that most good jobs will pay some towards retirement via pension or 401K, Health insurance, vacation pay and will pay half of your FICA. Only if the gross you receive as a 1099 is substantially larger than as an employee it could change things, but I really doubt it.
From what I have heard an experienced United Road driver can make $100,000 plus benefits. I would think you would need $120,000-$130,000 on 1099 to compensate for your extra tax liability and lack of benefits. Just my opinion. Maybe a current United Road driver can help you further.

So today I'm finally hired by URS. Will be training here at Baltimore terminal for a week. Then assign a truck by the end of the week. Go home for the weekend. Then be at Michigan on Monday morning for orientation and all that good stuff.
