Guy from trucking school just hit 6 months and just passed 2 interviews for a tanker hazmat job thats local to us, home daily, paid OT after 8 hours / day…. Hourly….His first local gig ever. (They were looking for 1 year xp but, they want him)

We've both been OTR 6 months at megas

Video he found of their job

Its not exactly a huge tanker, its tubs.

But I keep hearing about how typically small places whose focus isnt trucking are usually unicorns. Without knowing the pay would you say this is potentially one of them?

Honestly feeling super envious right now… lol
Give me something bad to think about because Im struggling with finding a downside (kinda joking lol)

Could be a unicorn job for sure. Saw one guy posting on Facebook about his second ever trucking job being an on call tanker gig. Basically, he got paid for everyday he just waited around at the truck stop

He was clearing 2000/wk and only drove 500-1000 miles a week in the pictures he posted. Only experience he had prior was a year at Western Express

Never quit browsing options, even if it's just scrolling through Indeed once a week looking for the unicorn.

Your "assessment" of this opportunity is WAAAAAAAA-HHAAAAAY TOO EARLY.

Take the job -- & stay there AT LEAST ONE YEAR.

THEN -- you will likely know the good, the bad....& the ugly that's there.

Ya never know what opportunities you’re gonna trip over

I know a guy that was 20 and went to the CDL class at the local community college and got recruited by a small heavy haul company that has 7 trucks and has a specialty niche ,

the heavy haul company has a intense background check which includes siblings and parents etc

and they have a 9 month training program at half pay

Of the 30 students in the class only three were eligible to apply due to the background check requirements (squeaky clean criminal credit and driving record )

and the guy I know was the only one of the three willing to fill out the mountain of paperwork .

yes , there are companies out there that will hire a 20 year old and train them for oversize heavy haul .

And I’m sure there are tanker companies as well , you just gotta keep turning over rocks till you find them .
