So I have been OTR for 2 months now. It's starting to seem like I have nothing left at home because of it. The friends I used to see regularly seem to not have any time when I'm home. I barely see my family that I live with (dad, step mom and step sister) or the rest of my family. All because of goofy days off.

On top of all that, all I have to talk about anymore is trucking. Whether it's the stupid thing my dispatcher did this week, or that messed up dock I had to back up to, or that sweet car I saw in wherever.

Is it normal for this job to kill your home life? I love my job, I really do, but it seems to be costing me everything I go to work for.....

Peoples lives go on with or without you there. When I used to come home for "home time" I often felt like I was in the way. I finally went local and am now home on weekends and every night. Best move I ever made. Best advice I could give you right now is to touch base with as many as you can by phone until you get something closer to home. Good luck.

Finish up the 1year you need, then find a job that brings you home every night or as much as you care to be at the house?

So essentially, yes, if you drive OTR, your gonna lose alot at home. As long as I am not the only driver trying to handle this side of things, I don't feel as ###### about it.

I assume being otr and trying to start dating again is a horrible plan as well?
