Ok so I went through Schneider orientation but decided to let that go in favor of USf holland. However through the hiring process OSHA came and did some kind of audit ( not sure) and they went on a hiring freeze. No real big deal I live at home and have a lot of money in the bank and paid off all my bills so I'm not in need of a job right this second. I kind of have a great opportunity to sit down and interview companies rather then them interview me.. My options, dohrn transfer offered me a night linehaul position making $17 an hour, small terminal out of peru, il easy job, trucks are mostly 04-07 internationals.. Saia wants to bring me on.. $21 an hour but it's mostly work in Chicago along those tight streets, I drove for Pepsi in Chicago for a year and a half with 40, 45 foot trailers and that was tight as is! Dli is interviewing me Friday.. Idk much about them but apparently I'll only work from 1am-9am mon - fri for $750 a week.. I'd deliver auto parts but it would be outside of Chicago .. Crst dedicated apparently the recruiter told me they have riverdale, il to Morton, il runs and your home daily, it pays $900 a week on avg.. It sounds fishy I thought they only ran teams? And last I'm waiting on yrc in Bolingbrook, il they are interested in hiring me ( my dad worked there 25 years) but he needs to get approval to start hiring, so who know how long that will be.. Any advice on those companies? Or should I keep looking?
Dohrn, saia, dli, or crst dedicated.

I did CRST dedicated for a while and was making 980 a week. I was home about 2.5 days a week and it was team. Bad company but I had a good gig for OTR. I would say YRC, Saia is good too but I'd rather do line haul, I just don't like local period. If I were in your shoes I'd definitely wanna avoid Chicago as a local driver. I didn't even like going there once a week. Too bad about Holland cause they are good even though they are part of YRC. There are R&L Carriers, ABF, Old Dominion Freight Lines, Conway and many others. Out west where I'm at it's kinda tough to get a good job these days. I got lucky and landed a job at USF Reddaway (YRC) and have been doing pretty good. Busy and slow, kinda on and off thing. Hope it stays busy through the winter.

Wanted to reply to this. I decided to take the dli job back in august, so far so good. Company is nice enough to give me vacation a month early in July for a yellowstone trip with my girlfriend. One week into working there I asked for a specific route and the following week they gave it to me. I start at 10pm to do my paperwork, then I load my truck and do my 250 mile 11 stop route. I usually finish between 530-630 am. My route pays $805 a week, plus I make $150 a week extra to load my truck. About once a week I'll do extra work after my route usually either shuttling gm, or doing a drop and hook in Michigan city. That pays $16 an hour.. Usually I gross about $995-$1,019 a week. I never work more then 45 hours a week and have the weekends off. I've yet to take a day of either. A lot of people that work there have bad attitudes but it's what you make of it, no job is perfect. They also give out up to $1,000 a year in bonuses for mpg and low idle which I've consistently made. Health insurance just went up but is still a bareable $19 a week $750 deductible 80/20 coverage, dental $3 vision $1.50, short term dis $6 long term $6 cover $1,700 a month, 401k is 25% match. Only setback is equipment is not up to par but luckily I've had a reliable truck for the last 8 months that I take good care of. I'd rate the company a solid B. One of the better non union carriers.

So im thinking of applying at dli out of Bolingbrook,il is it really a good company to work for they told me it would be from 12am to 12pm and get a flat rate per day is it hard work not that I can't handle it n are the dealers u deliver to close by or are they a distance from each other?
-
Well then you would be working with me in Bolingbrook. If I didnt know any better I'd say they want you for route 59-1. It dispatches about midnight and takes about 12 hours, runs down to springfield and champaign. 400 miles 15 or so stops pays about $220 a day. You could choose to load your own trailer for an extra $30 a day to make $1,250 a week but you would be pushing 65 hours a week. As far as work goes I used to deliver for Pepsi and can say compared to that dli is easy, but you do have your share of heavy parts and engines etc. Then again there are parts that weigh almost nothing. As far as the distance between each stop goes it depends on the route. Some are close by others you may have to drive 2 hours to get there. On route 59 you drive 3 hours just to get to your 1st stop so it varies.

Do u guys go to the same places everyday how about the unloading do u guys got electric pallet jacks and are the places small that u park on the street and carry or push parts inside building?
-
No electric pallet jacks, just manual jacks. Most the product doesn't even come on pallets. If it's a bigger stop they will put most the smaller items in a cage on wheels. Most stops you pull up or back up right to the delivery door/area. There are some stops in Chicago to where you park on the street but you never usually have to walk far unless the dealer decides to park cars in areas that block you. ( it happens rarely) most the parts and totes you will carry by hand unless they are otherwise in a cage or on a pallet.
-
And yes you deliver to the same stops every night.. On rare occasions they may stick an extra stop on your route if another route is overloaded or the driver called off and they are trying to spread his stops to other routes if no utility driver is available to run his route. So did they tell you that you would be a utility driver or you were gonna get a specific route?
-
Well I just talk to them over the phone about the position n they told me they got 2 available one from 12-12 220 a day and the other from 3:30 to 1:30 but it's less money 145 a day...they didn't tell me about unloading by hand...since u been working for them u think is worth it?....and thanks a lot for the information I really appreciate it I'm glad I found u lol
-
Well the 220 a day route would be worth it. The 330am would be kind of nice since you could treat it like an early 1st shift route but for 10 hours it only pays 145? I think that's route 74 not sure though. The route I'm on pays 161 a day, is considered a 9 hour route but I do it in 7 hours plus 1 hour for loading so its possible that route may only take you 8 hours instead of 10. The one from 12-12 will however legitimately take you 11-13 hours. In the end I don't know your financial or family situation, what works for me might not work for you. I like the company and the work and believe most people wouldn't mind it either.. I would definitely recommend dli and giving it a chance, but again, depends on your situation.
