so i'm gonna start going on the road with my mentor sunday. he's dedicated walmart. i'm excited to go out there and have at last a taste of the life on the road but yet i'm so nervous.
it's been almost 2 1/2 weeks i have'nt been behind the wheel and i hope i'll catch up quick and remember to drive those beast differently than my car as well as the shifting ( last time i forgot how to drive my car i was looking for my gear )
i hope my mentor has the patience with me, i only have 4 1/2 days of driving experience and i never drove bigger than a minivan before so yes i know i'll make some mistakes so i should control my frustrations regarding those mistakes.
i'll keep you updated on how things going
Done with orientation, go with my mentor sunday

You should be fine. Most of the mentors on that fleet are pretty cool guys.
cannuck Thanks this. -
thanx!! i hope i'm lucky enought to have a good trainer
-
Why did you have to wait 2.5 weeks to get out with your trainer ? Geeze that's 2.5 weeks w/o a pay check 1 -
Btw. Id being dedicated w/ walmart more $ for the driver or more home time w/ less $
-
the 2.5 weeks is between my cdl road test and tomorrow, orientation started august 3rd so i had a week off

a little update... tuesday i got in the truck at 1830, we have a short distance load with 3 stops from Harrisonville, MO to Shawnee, ks / Bonner springs, ks and Leavenworth, ks then back to Harrisonville, for this run i have'nt drove and it was ok with me so i can get to know my mentor and how he works and so my stress goes away...
at 0100, we have a run from Harrisonville to Topeka, KS and Emporia, KS, i drove the first part of the trip. The cool thing was that less than 5 minutes i was on the highway, my mentor was like... ok you seem to have it under control so i'll go take a nap... so i kept going, that way i got more confident on my skills and i was'nt stressed at all, just cautious, i just missed a gear 2 times and grind the gears about 2 or 3 times other than that i did good and did a perfect dock backing in the dark with only 2 pull ups...
so far i have an excellent mentor, he takes the time to explain and to answer to my questions -
I just recently quit swift and I think it was for the best my mentor was good but he did warn me I did not even make enough money to eat hardly and when I quit they only said I worked for them for a couple of weeks and I did give it my best for 9 months but just could not survive on the money I was paid I hope you have better luck.

2 weeks left to go with my mentor and things goes smooth!! i have a lot of fun and been in LA, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Salt lake city... i admit i love going west and i hate crossing illinois lol
i have improved a lot and now i am more calm and confident. plus i have my CDs playing when i'm behind the wheel which is awsome!!
My mentor is great !! he give me some tricks and he encourage me when i get nervous on some situation... he's impressed on how fast i improved compared to some of his previous students
time goes fast and i'm sure those 2 last weeks will fly away if we get preplans as we did since the beginning. the longest we sat waiting for a load was 1 night -
God to hear man, glad you're having a good experience.
