I was at the local John Deere dealer last week and ran into a TMC driver making a delivery late in the day, the day before thanksgiving. he had other stops on, wonder if he made it home? felt good to be in my pickup truck instead of a TMC truck. I took 5 days off with my company now, ended up turning into 7 because not much is going on this week. I never got a day off with TMC. work work work for nothing.

Why weren't you making money with TMC with seven years driving experience? Many drivers who insist on weekly home time when they're otr can't understand why they're not making the cash. When an otr company has to worry about getting you home weekly you're more than likely not going to get the long mileage loads as much as the driver who is willing to stay out and roll. A week at home translates into zero paycheck for the week and takes away from your annual earnings.

I made $39,000 a year working 5-6 days a week at TMC. I make $50,000 a year working 3-5 days a week now. I can afford to take a few days off around the holidays, or whenever I feel like it. I left Sunday morning before thanksgiving, ran 2000 miles, was home Tuesday night and have a $700+ paycheck tomorrow with my holiday pay. I had no full time driving experience when I went to TMC. I got sick of the corporate culture and politics and certification game.

there is more to life than being stuck in a truck all the time.

When I was with C.R. England I didn't get home for 5 months... please explain to me why I was going broke? Now I'm with Foodliner, I'm home nearly every day (occasionally out two or three days) and home almost 99% of the weekends and I made $55K last year. I'll take the home time and triple the pay any day over living in a truck... thank you very much.

also TMC usually stole or otherwise kept a part of my paycheck, so I take home a larger percentage of my $50K than I did my $39K. that adds up too.

WOW! Something doesn't sound right. Either you were on percentage pay and not getting the loads or you were on mileage and not getting the miles. At the entry level mileage pay for newbies (.35 cpm) this would mean you were only getting around 2100 miles per week. If you were making more than .35 then your miles were even less. At six days out at .35 cpm you were averaging approximately 350 miles per day, not even seven hours per day. Did you not say anything to your dispatch manager for an entire year? I'm really interested in what occurred here because if your experience is recent it means either TMC is losing serious business or you were getting the shaft somehow.

I run otr. Mostly regional though. Im home on weekends and make more then the boys staying out months at a time. There's absolutely no reason for trucks to be out weeks on end. Especially with dedicated accounts.

I`m guessing it`s against the law to stay out 2 weeks at a time, make good money, and enjoy doing it?

What`s the point of this thread? Busting people`s chops about not being home more often?

Had a friend at celadon. He had a shortage on every check and they only hire highly skilled professionals at a jaw dropping, record setting .34 cents a mile
