I'm a second career guy, so I will have retirement plan health insurance from my previous employer. Is there a chance that May would pay me what they are not spending to provide me health insurance?
Don't need the health insurance.

Nope. Their insurance is not that great to begin with either.

70/30 plan nothing to write home about

Doesn't hurt to ask. Their plan might not be good. But they are still paying around 10k per person just to provide what you do have. The company I work for will give you $400 a month to stay off their insurance.

May is self-insured I believe. If I remember correctly they have some kind of a legal Trust or actuary handle it.

All these companies now are struggling to keep up with what's happening in the insurance arena, regulations, etc. I posted the following last week on another thread:
Last month I was ranting about how I knew my health insurance contribution was going up at work. I postulated that the rates and deductibles would most likely go up, care and coverage down. Well, it's reality now. Received the new plan quote today.
IT'S OUTRAGEOUS!!!
If I want to cover myself and the wife, the "decent tier" plan is now $805.45 per month! Of course we have the HSA plan option which is probably similar to what folks will get under the Obama "Affordable Care Act" exchange. That one one will run us $433.55 a month.
"Affordable Care Act" my butt!
I might add, my company will contribute $600 a year towards the HSA plan. Plus, I can just cover myself for only $41 a month. However, that leaves my wife uncovered and our family vulnerable in the event of a major health event. Most of you young guns don't even care much about this stuff now. However, just wait until you get into your 50's
I think what will happen when ObamaCare goes into full effect in 2014, a lot of these companies will probably choose to pay the penalty to the feds for not providing coverage and just let the employee go to the State run "exchange". A backdoor way established by the President and the bureaucrats to hasten a single payer system.jomar68 Thanks this. -
You will be lucky to make any money at "No Pay May".
-
wait we have health insurance?! lol

With May, you are paying about 80%+ of the premium, and they cover basically nothing. It is a glorified catastrophic plan. DEFININTELY NOT for anyone with a family123456 Thanks this. -
Scooter is that with May your being quoted $800 a month for insurance for you and the wife?
