Heres a whole section on how excessive immigration affects the job market which of course includes us in transportation...Employment is just the tip of the iceberg...I hope Im getting through to some of my fellow drivers out there & they join up with me...

If the new drivers would just do the math...Start rate of say .32 CPM - 10% for book miles & that takes it down to about .29 CPM @ average 100,000 miles per year = $29,000....Minus food on the road ect ect & this is for about say 55 legal hrs per week every week....Doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure..

    Great post, true words.

You're assuming a lot! Perhaps have even forgotten how bad the economy crashed in 2007 when millions of hard working red blooded tax paying citizens were blindsided with pink slips at their companies. Trucking isn't rocket science either as some on here would portray it to be. It is actually a monumentally easy/simple job. I contend the people who leave, leave when an opportunity for a more challenging job presents itself. A person just about needs a full lobotomy to enjoy this job and do it for more than 2 years. I will dare say the drivers who have been out here long term have absolutely no other skill sets and cannot do any other job at all to support themselves or their families. For me and tens of thousands of others new to trucking, it is a stop gap, we are just waiting for the economy to pick back up then resume our old careers and move on to our million dollar retirements and reminisce about the days we had our brains sucked out and wandered the interstates of this great nation.

We've been consistently on a pattern of "do more for less" for employees, and it shows no sign of ending anytime soon. So no, I'm going to remain skeptical about this 60k-90k/year claim, lest it should be only as a result of something like Zimbabwe-style hyperinflation.

Pay has barely gone up in the last 20 years, I can't see it jumping that drastically it the next two years. You can make that kind of money in the oil fields, but not OTR with these mega carriers.

    cisco Thanks this.
