Good morning all. I am interested in USX and you have great info on here for us new drivers. Do they make you start out as team? How long? Are you generally happy with your miles and pay with USX? What is your average take home pay weekly? I do not graduate cdl school until mid Dec., just doing research to find a good fit . Thanks , Dirtynecker.

you get paid .18 cents for all miles the truck drives
For the first 8 weeks as a team.
We average 6,000 a week or 1,080 before taxes
After 8 weeks you can solo, but pay and miles go down.
I'm staying as a team. After 8 weeks we split 48 cpm

    Hi everyone,

Wedge has asked me to post on his behalf. His computer bit the dust and it will likely take him a couple of weeks to get it back online. Keep the thread rolling along!

Hi all! I hope you all are safe and well. I am safe, but not well (as my husband will tell you, I haven't been well in a long time, but that's another story! LOL). Anyway...was at my shipper today-Pactiv in Covington GA-and went to back under the trlr, found it was too high, so I cranked it down, backed up again, checked and thought it was low enough. Well, it wasn't and I ended up with the kingpin in front of my 5th wheel. Tried to crank trlr back up, but it was heavy, so I couldn't. Went inside shipping office and asked if the yard jockey would come around and give me a hand. Let's just say he was a real prick about it and wouldn't help, so I went back in the shipping office and was told they would send someone out. I waited 30 minutes and no one came, so I tried again to crank the trlr up. That's when it happened-I tore the large muscle in my rotator cuff on my right arm. No other driver sitting there on that yard would assist either, until another USX driver walked over just because he saw another USX truck there. I don't know who that guy was, but he really saved me today.

I called dispatch and let them know about the shipper being buttheads and that I hurt my arm. I drove load to Tunnel Hill and went to ER since I got in after the clinic closed. Now I'm (finally) in the hotel. Yep, can't even sleep in my truck because I'm on muscle relaxers. Have to call Workmans Comp and talk to Safety in the morning. I was due to go on home time Monday, but I won't be released to full duty until after the 4th, so I'm pretty much screwed. I hope they will get me home because I've got doctor and dentist appointments set up for next week (hence the home time) that took me 3 months to get.

And when it rains, it pours, quite literally in this case...my car windshield wiper conked out and instead of being able to just replace the bushing, you have to replace the whole thing..$287.00 WTF????? AND if that wasn't enough, with all the rain in our area of VA, my son's car got flooded and is toast. I just can't catch a break lately.

I seem to be such a downer here and I apologize for that!!!!!! I really want this to work out, even got a new FM that I was hoping would be better. Just really haven't had the chance to work with her yet. She did get me the breakdown pay I was due and layover pay for last Friday (thanks NoNoCraig for the heads up about that!!!) and she was working on miles for me. So that's a good thing. There....now I've left this on a positive note! HAHAHA

    Wedge Thanks this.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who participated in this thread with all their great tips and stories. Thanks Wedge, for starting this thread, I've enjoyed reading about your adventures! Craig and Anne, I've read your blog and read about your experiences, sounds like you're having fun working!

My husband and I are planning to apply to USX after we complete CDL training. We want to team drive and I would like my husband to train me since I hear there is a shortage of female trainers and I prefer not to go out for several weeks with a male trainer ... and then I also don't smoke, so that's another thing. Since it might take forever to find a non-smoker female trainer for me, it seems easier for my husband to go through it all first and then I will start later and he can train me. But how in the world do we even begin to schedule something like this, time-wise? How soon should he begin before me so it all works out? And can we still go to CDL school together? We're supposed to begin around the end of Sept or beginning of Oct, for 3 weeks.
