Getting ready to buy a trailer. One of the ones I am looking at has disc breaks. My tractor has drums. Has anyone driven a unit set up like that? I'm wondering if it will cause an issue. Seems like it should be fine but if there is something I'm not aware of I'd like to know before I take the plunge.

My truck has drums and the trailer has disc. I haven’t had any issues.

Yup you're fine. Heck my tractor has both drum and disk brakes on it. Disks on the steer and drives and drums on the lift axle.

My new trailer has disc, old trailer has drum. Tractor has drum.
    Braking seems the same.

    I have a question ( raises hand ).

Wrench did my one drive axle, new brakes ( drums ) in 28 minutes. Start to finish. $175

How much do the disks cost?

My company truck I used to drive had 455,000 on it when I gave it back and it never had brakes put on it. Even after one of the drive axle cans failed and left the brakes over 1/2 (spring brake pressure) applied and drove 15 miles to the shop that way. Another driver has had if sense December and Im sure they haven't been touched yet. In fact Ive never seen a set of pads changed in our shop yet and Ive been here 4 1/2 years now. And we haul 105,500 everyday up here in the northwest.

Well that's all quite fascinating. Mine has 491,000 on it. But it doesn't tell me anything on what the cost is.

Ask your wrench. Disk brakes are by far superior.
In this new world of safety first, I still can't get over the use of drum brakes.
My guess is your wrench will look at you funny.

I doubt he has any experience with them. It's just a question. Which is more expensive? Now we have post on superior and one on I make mine last, which I don't recall asking about.
