Had a Pig trailer/RxR trailer loaded w/ lumber blow on I-5 @ speed. Took out 3 of 4 tires on a set of duals on the trailer. Yeah it could of got ugly if that trailer would of went over. Had a couple of drivers blow while pulling off the front wrappers on a logger. That almost knocked off my feet. Yep they sound like a shotgun for sure.

I had one do in OKC on the raised I 40. One fwd tandem blew out and hit the back of the cab. Sounded like dynamite. Lady in a Caddie peed her pants and went across 3 lanes.

Lost two on a dump, pulling a pup, both loaded with hot mix for Bryce Canyon National Park. I was fairly new to trucking back then, and the boss, (actually co-owner of the company) came by and told me to "limp it on in, very slowly, offload into the paving machine, then limp back to the yard by Panguitch." If I knew then, what I know now, he would have found himself with a driver-less dump truck and I'd have ridden my thumb home. . .

I still remember back in the 80s pulling a trash transfer trailer I heard a bomb go off and looked in my mirror and saw smoke, rubber flying and four wheelers swerving all over behind me. Duals on the wagon were gone. Man that was louder than a shotgun I thought. More like a quarter stick.

I remember seeing a bus blow a tire and one of the windows pop open and a pillow fly out.

I've had five. Three were loud, explosive failures. One on a #7 that took out the mud flap and left tiny shrapnel all over the road. Another on the #7 drive that took out the air bags that we never heard, only realizing it had gone after hitting a bump and had the whole trailer slam down hard on the 5th wheel.

One on the #8 trailer went so faintly that I wondered whether it was a tire or not, just a faint "pop!". Pulled over to check it out and it was a flap of rubber on the sidewall that had blown open.

Pressure gauges are your friend. Kicking or thumping doesn't tell the story.

I helped a guy chain an axle up after both tires on his wagon let go. Got him to the tire shop.

Ran over a railroad spike on a super single, shop wanted to know if I could drive 30 miles to the TA to get it fixed. Ah,,,no.... then the TA calls me to verify my location. I reminded him I had a super single... really he says,,, let me go back to the shop and get one..
