I am in no way being sarcastic but $70-$75 an hour is good money?
Fuel, Insurance, Maintenance costs and Truck prices have to be similar in Colorado as is in the East Coast, not sure about drivers pay in Colorado but i couldn't make a living getting that payscale for a dump truck, and i was in the dump truck business for over 20 years, maybe i am missing something....................
What are those costs in Colorado?tnpete, Camelclutch, Ruthless and 1 other person Thank this. -
Camelclutch and Dirty-Low-Walker Thank this.

I'm a private hauler.. Own my truck and 3 trailers for cash. My expenses are not really too high. So not sure what is going rate. -
I made $70/hr 10 years go in the recession pulling someone else's trailer in Northern CA. Different market for sure but $85 was a decent rate back then with your own truck/trailer, now closer to $100/hr.
OldRed98 Thanks this. -
Here's that project in Houston going on... Not sure where I got $60 an hour. This was back in November that I got the call.
If you can do 2 loads per hour then that's $98 an hour. but who knows how many loads you can do per hour.
Rate: $49.00 per load 100% paid by direct deposit every Friday
Loads are 14 cubic yards or 17 tons per load (will not be scaled)
- still have openings (adding 20 more trucks; can use belly dumps, end dumps or side dumps)
- moving 1.5 million cubic yards of soil
- 10 month project
- 3.6 miles one way
-
With wait times to load and unload if there's a lot of trucks
$49 a load is more like drivers pay than O/O pay.Camelclutch and OldRed98 Thank this. -
Today in my excavating business on occasion i hire trucks for $75-$85 "tandem" per hour, I wouldn't do it for that so that is why i sold out and hire on occasion.
With the prices of trucks, maintenance, fuel and insurance even at $100 a hour i wouldn't do it, but all my trucks where less then 3 years old, i turned them over at 4 years and where well maintained, they had to be, they did aprox 300-400 miles a day working aprox 12 hours port to port. -
