    Hi there,
I own a new Dump Truck Company.
    Bought a 2006 Peterbilt 385 C13 Quint axel -10 speed transmission 430 or 450 horsepower. 22 ton capacity.
Thinking of buying a second truck.
Found a 2008 Peterbilt 340 with a Cummins ISC 315 horsepower- Automatic 18 ton capacity. But, not sure if this second dump truck is strong enough for the dump truck business. Mainly, haul asphalt/hot mix. Don’t really do aggragate. Need advice please.

Call the plants and ask how much a yard of hot mix weighs, then call the construction companies and ask what type of equipment they require for their paving machines.

When I lived in San Antonio, almost all the asphalt was delivered by belly dump outfits - but that was back before Bill Hall Jr. was murdered by his wife.

    Thanks for the quick response.
I’m already working with a few plants already with my Peterbilt C13 engine but not sure if the automatic transmission 2008 Peterbilt with a ISC 315 engine with 315 horsepower is strong enough for hauling 18 tons on a daily basis.

How much torque does the engine make, and what gear ratio is in the differential?

Will an ISC 315 work? You’re not in mountainous terrain, so I’m sure it will. But you won’t be happy with it, it’s too weak. And remember, 2008, 2009, and 2010 year models put a lot of people out of the trucking business. Just a word to the wise.

Dump Truck San Antonio Thanks this.
