Early warning signs I blamed on stress that were actually early-onset Alzheimer's in my forties

In some cases, it’s passed down directly from parent to child.

Hell my dad just went on to stage 2 Parkinson's in 2012, in 2024 Christmas time he died in stage 5, one of the hospice nurses predicted his death within a day.. she had seen that much death.. we all have to go sometime.. but my dad lived a noble life and served his country in the Navy as a Radar Man.. he did his part and left a strong legacy.. I've got two brothers and two sisters.. yes, my dad lived and he was an honest man in the Navy.. We all live a great life today because of my father's sacrifice..

They treated my dad for Parkinsons for 10 YEARS, then, they decided, he didn't have it after all. That Alzenheimers is a SOB. Not so much for the people that have it, built the loved ones watching as you deteriorate. My dad and my FIL were both in the war. Dad in Europe, FIL in Japan, and I try and remind people, if it wasn't for people like them, we'd probably all be speaking German right now.

I used to be a police officer here in DFW, Texas. Seen a lot of death and bloodshed unfortunately.. It's always different and more personal when it's your own blood. I was blessed as my father died in relative peace but it's still fresh.. Time will pass though...time heals all wounds they say.. Yeah the young generations today couldn't even comprehend the sacrifice of having a DRAFT.. or fighting for your freedom..but they are living off of it!! I'm actually German but no speakie!! Lots of Germans in Texas..
Just FYI.. I do not support Hitler or mein kamph, but I am German and my grandfather was drafted into the war in 1940, may of that year.. my grandad was a first sergeant, he survived the battle of the bulge..Last edited: Aug 20, 2025

Thanks for your service as a LEO, almost tougher than the military, and I want to make crystal clear, me and my old man did NOT see eye to eye. While I was grateful for his service and the others like him, I couldn't agree with his mindset. The Germans are wonderful people, you talk about caught between a rock and a hard spot and we were taught to hate them. So unfair, I guess you had to be there. Not sure what I would have done in that situation. By me saying, we might be speaking German, is a hint at how close we were to losing the war. I'm not sure it was our military prowess, but more like the Germans just plumb ran out of steam. Had they perfected the jet fighter in time, might have had a very different outcome. In the meantime, sei gesund!The_vett Thanks this.
