    Estern "Circus Wagon" freightways out of North Brunswick, NJ. On the ball. This from a safe driver who is ready to call it quits, and will do so soon.

    Be sure you have another job lined up first. It is really tough out there right now.

    I will not take back anything I have said: Eastern will sit you down until you lay an egg. In my opinion, their equipment is almost beyond repair, the mechanics do not want to see you anymore, and while dispatch does treat you with professionalism and respect, they simply do not give you enough miles. If it was not for the food stamps I would not be able to make a living out of this place. I speak from personal experience.

    I will not stay at a mediocre job for fear of a bad economy. I'm a professional driver who is safety minded and serious abou his career. This is America, I believe that for as long as I have a valid CDL with a clean record and a steady work history, I should be able to keep my dignity.

    Nothing changes the fact that the Eastern recruiter neglects to tell you what equipment you will be on until the day you see their parking lot and find out for yourself that most of it is very old and in bad shape. Nothing changes the fact that dispacht, while polite and respectful, in my opinion does not have a clue. And nothing changes the fact that Eastern is poorly managed by people who are perhaps more focused on keeping their bad jobs than on winning.

    Please "jlkklj777" make it clear to the forum that the truck you are pictured in front of, is not the typical truck issued to drivers at Eastern, that you drive that truck most likely because you have been with Eastern one or more years, and/or run team. Please make it clear that even your truck was probably issued to you with half million miles on the meter or maybe more.

    Kinda hard to believe that when someone goes to a yard to apply for a job before doing any research on the company they don't go out and look at whats sitting on the yard! That's the first place I head when walking into a prospective employers yard! If I hadn't seen any of the equipment on the road then I will before my ink pen hits their application! No ones fault except your own for crawling into a POS truck no matter how needful or broke you are!

    Half the fleet consists of 610 model Volvo's with the auto shift. There are several 660 model (blue) double bunk Volvo's assigned to teams.

    The current economy has wreaked havoc with my personal finances as well. I do not blame Eastern for the lack of freight though. I know when things cycle back up I will have more miles than I can handle.

    I have posted my earnings for the past 2 years in the other thread as well as a comprehensive breakdown of what I got paid for.

    I have been driving trucks since 1992 and have discovered there will be trade offs no matter where you go;

    A new truck? Probably governed at 60 or 65 mph (if your lucky).
    Plenty of miles? Maybe at .25 to .30 cpm.
    Paid weekends? fughetabouit!
    Paid holidays? doubtful
    Paid sick days/personal days? doubtful

    I started in the same type truck you (and others) have complained about. As a matter of fact I drove those smaller bunk trucks for almost 3 years before I reluctantly accepted one of the newer Volvo's (did not want an automatic).

    My truck (9940) has 615,000 miles on it so far. I have been offered new trucks but have declined them each time.

    By the way, it had a little over 100,000 miles when I was assigned to it.

    Life is too short to stay at a job where you are unhappy. I truly wish you well in your job search.
