Hello folks. I drive a 2009 Columbia with an Eaton Fuller RTOC-16909A tranny. The truck has almost 1,400,000 miles and it still has the original tranny. So last week my clutch popped and ended up on the floor. It's probably the clutch brake. So I'm thinking...since the tranny and everything has to come out, why not just get a master rebuild kit and get it done?
What do you guys think? Would this be the right move? The shop already quoted me 8 hours at $120/hr labor to do the clutch brake (not including parts). So why not just go all the way?
I called Freightliner and they want roughly $1300 for the rebuild kit. I found another place that has it for about $750 (the same one).
Do you guys know of any more reputable suppliers where I can get the kit? I just want to have a few options, and I'm having a little trouble looking for it. Thanks.
One more thing...this truck had two previous owners. I want to try to track down the original one who had it for 10 years to see if he did any major work. Where can I find this info? My DMV says they can't give me the info due to privacy concerns. Is there a website or something where I can go?

Did the last person you bought the truck have the persons information? I don't think you can back track that information anywhere.

Did you ever check the linkage? And the tranny doesn't have to come out for clutch brake

Make sure the shop isn’t hosing you. Depending on the clutch it could be one of those pivoting ones they can replace in an hour or two. Not sure but just letting you know. I just went through it thinking it was my brake and ended up being the whole clutch. But the mechanic told me the brake would have been an easy quick job if that was it.

If ur pedal went to the floor, it’s the linkage

Paid $850 Canadian for the Eaton master kit to rebuild my 15 speed. That was about 5 years ago mind you.
Just so you're aware, the master kits contain only bearings, gaskets and seals. Any other hard parts like gears, synchro, input shaft, shift forks etc are above and beyond what the master kits contain. Gears will typically last a very long time if the oil is serviced regularly and the transmission isn't abused.
Also, my Eaton kit contained bearings from about 5 different manufacturers. Not that it really matters in the big picture.Rideandrepair and gekko1323 Thank this. -
