Eld for older mechanical trucks

No, an eld needs specific data from an ecm. Thats why everything before 2000 is exempt. You can use a log book app but it will only be a paper log in digital form.

 

A LOT of carriers will not lease an owner operator now unless your truck is 2014 or newer, because of this...insurance reasons.

Mega's want 2017 or newer....

 

I use blue ink tech. Its free unless u want to pay for ifta tracking. Download it on ur phone and u can use it just like a paper log

 

Motive

 

Before my carrier required an ELD I used the Keep Trucking App on my phone. It is now called Motive. It was similar to using an ELD except I had the ability to edit all of it and it did not talk to the truck. If you are just using it to log it was excellent, if your carrier requires an ELD it won’t work for you.

 

There used to be a computer software some of us used on laptops.

I don't know if it's still around.
