I am a paper logger and I don't spend more then 5 minutes a day on my logs. I do them on the computer so there are never mistakes and can cheat all i want and they are easily fixed. and yes I take a nap when I want. I don't see what the big deal is I never have to drive tired so Even on paper logs and I cheat everyday yet Im still driving safer then anyone on elogs. thing about this how many accidents are going to be caused when everyone on the road will have to drive tired so they can stay legal. not everyone can operate the same way. this is so unsafe in my opinion. people say plan your trip better well that's moronic you cant plan on an accident you cant plan on a shipper/receiver taking 5 hours to load/unload you. there are many things that cant be factored into your route planning. it doesn't seem so bad right now most are still on paper logs wait till everyone in a truck has to go elog its gonna be bad. and the money if they want us to have the ability to work less loads are gonna have to start paying more to compensate for our losses.

Elogs will keep the real truck drivers from stopping at every truck stop, rest area and Buffett along the way. It'll also stop them from stopping on every onramp for their nap.

IMO, the Syscos of the trucking world are going to have to hire security and put up partitions to keep irate drivers from tearing lumper and receiving personnel limb from limb.

It's one thing to deal with a 6 hour unload delay when your on paper, but take a lot of those with short fuses and shove them onto a fully operational and enforceable eLog system, and all of the sudden there's going to be a new attitude awareness on display. The first 4-6 months of putting the rest on eLog [effectively overnight] is going to push a lot of drivers to the edge. Seriously. We will all need to be aware of this likelihood.

But I'm still thinking a lot of enforcement will be delayed for a period of time to try and give many time to learn the systems and rework their driving styles.

I hope dealing with huge increases of irate driver incidents causes some of the worst [slowest] shippers and receivers to modify their behavior but I'm not overly optimistic.

The HOS is the biggest hurdle for any of us as we all know. If the pencil pushers would listen to those in the know and change it, would be a big help for all of us. If Elog is the future then so be it, been a few things in life I thought I wouldn't like but.... I did.

Well here is what I think - changing it would be a nightmare for us because of what everyone wants. Some want the flexibility based on the work, others want to have full control over their hours and others want it to fit their needs. Where would it end?

The simple solution is just return it to the 1962 version and add one thing to it, no exemptions.

The purpose for those who don't seem to get is to stop the abuse of the drivers, putting more regulations have made it impossible to see how to use it clearly and how to set it up to deal with all of it the right way.

So to me, returning it to the 1962 version is the only way we can actually do the job right.

The eld didn't force you to do anything. Next time plan your trips. If you're going to drive to point B and know you'll end up 50 miles from point B then pull over, call the truck stop, and make sure the lot is big enough, not already packed or actually still exists before you drive over there!
