Here you are in the midst of being out of a job. With all the Governmental electronics being mandated into commercial vehicles E-logs, E.O.B.R, speed limiters, single, or dual facing cameras inside trucks, and so forth. I forgot autonomous driverless trucks. This is where the industry is today. It is supposedly based upon safety statistical data. If we as an industry had done what was needed years ago, and not given in to the need to hire any able bodied person to drive a truck, or those two week wonder driving schools did not mass produce the drivers. Training the driver in a manner proper to the industry, and not just enough training to get his/her CDL.
I have, nor will i ever have any of these such devices in my fleet. My fleet still runs paper logs. Those naysayers can say what they want about those of us who run paper logs (sticks and stones). We do not have a babysitter in our jump seats. This is what the industry has come to whether it is a D.O.T officer, Government official, or other means of which just makes your job no different than before, with the exception you now have more electronic devices to monitor your every move , and you have no type of comfort zone if needed due to the eld machine. When is the government going to require a chip be inserted into drivers to monitor vital organs, when you use the bathroom, and so forth? I know i will have offended some of you, but this was not my intention. This is just my personal opinion, and how i feel about how our industry has seen its demise in the last 30 years.

Government will mandate a chip inserted in everyone's right hand at one point. They're just preparing us with Elogs, cameras, etc for government to control ALL aspects of our lives.

When I took IT in college I learned that I would gain a chip with information on it plus passkey so I may enter the so called holy of holies within the datacenters that control our Internet and other purposes. It's a good way to keep the "Riff raff" out. After a careful examination, I decided at that time in IT college my second year that I will not proceed any closer to such a life time with that thing inside of me.
It is one thing to have a chip for medical purposes in pets to locate the owners etc and that is not a bad purpose at all. But when you experience a progressing towards enforcement and real time tracking (You pretty much are already if you have a smart phone, as long there are three towers retaining information to 15 yards anywhere on planet earth to the actual location of that phone etc in real time 24/7 which is stored by big data revealed last year, it is a form of monitoring capable of being called up by the Law to prepare a prosecution in court where revelant against you.
You can choose not to have a smart phone. I do keep mine but if the Government is so interested in my absolutely boring quiet life, they are wasting time. Seriously.
What I cannot accept is the evolving and growth of computer stuff inside that big truck to where you have all these things you described in the post to where it's a reality.
Ive got a few years yet to live. I wont live long enough to see a world evolved into chipping people for enforcement etc and I will refuse to see robot trucks bought for a half mil on market for the purpose of eliminating human drivers and all the costs associated with them.
Switzerland had a vote 11 months ago. Essentially to tax robots as if they are human beings based on productivity and provide a check cradle to grave without excessive taxation and a option to go to work to do something with that life other than sit on the porch. It failed, but not by much.
I don't want to live in a world where we serve machines or have to fight machines more than we already are.OLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this. -

Anyhow.
I love Stihls, I bought one of the big 600 series I think they had, the biggest availible in the local stihl dealer here, with something like a 2 plus foot bar on it and a hell of a chain. No chips, I ran that 10 years cutting several oaks, sycomores and other trees on my land that were sometimes really really big. I did not touch the large walnuts though, I recognize that they might have value but they are so big something like 6 feet across, it would be bad to cut them. You can almost make a number of tables out of them.
Until I bought that Stihl, I was doing the dumb option buying the little saws at the Lowes and such, all they are good for really are bucking limbs. Although there was a 20 amp electric saw that was really light and excellent for learning on. It finally burned out the motor after a few years.
But if you have to worry that it might be stolen, then I would presume that there is a core issue related to being able to keep those tools secure in the first place. You don't leave those things laying around.OLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this. -
I have a Stihl 051 if your familiar with those, talk about heavy LOL. Think it was discontinued in 84? Stihl is a good product for sure.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
