Seeing where the trend of decarbonization is going on in the US, what would be the best “electrification” method for OTR trucking? Do you think Hybrids have a chance in the industry?

The practical technology for such is decades away.

Best to focus your attention/priorities elsewhere.

Tesla semi just did 1,000 miles in one day. From what they are saying I think the were recharging while load and unloading or something and were at 70,000 lbs. I was not a just drive all day. But a couple recharging.

Pepsi has tesla trucks and when fully loaded (80,000-82,000 have a unrecharged range of under 250 miles...! They are only using them for short runs... with lighter l8ads like chips they go around 450 miles..

They made a big show if 1 going over Donner pass with 82,000lb what they didn't talk about was they charged it in Reno then to Sacramento (140 miles) and had to recharge it to go back...

A tesla going 1,000 miles in 1 day... big whip.
My diesel can and does do over 1,400 miles...
That means the tesla spent about 7 HOURS charging instead if to 10-15 min I spent fueling

IF the "decarbonization" movement were legit, and not just a money grab, then yes, both the ev and hybrid technology application would not only have a chance, but would be better than "fossil" fuel.

It seems they are showing 3 hours recharging for the 1,000 miles. Yes you can do 1,400 miles but at say $5.50 per gallon at 7.5mpg that’s $1,026. It depends on you price per gallon and mpg vs what Tesla is paying per kilowatt. I think the semi is about 900 kilowatt at say about 2 full rechargers that would be 1800 kilowatts at $0.20 per kilowatt would be $360.

We don’t know everything about the 1,000 miles day but that's pretty good in my opinion they even did it

$.20/kw is the now price. Diesel used to be $.50/gal. It costs less to refine diesel today as the efficiency has gone up so much and like all things quantity, the price goes down when the volume goes up. Tax. Just wait till there are enough trucks that rely on the grid, and the taxes that apply will make that $.20 a distant faded memory.

decarbonization Where does that electricity come from. How does increase demand effect future cost to run trucks and run homes.

Best option is to design trucks like trains diesel generator providing power for an electric drivetrain

Over what kind of terrain, and pulling what kind of load?

Also, multiple recharges per day are going to be a productivity killer. They need to invent hot-swappable battery technology *if* they want to go all electric. But personally I think they should be looking at diesel electric hybrid drive systems like trains have. There's a good reason the railroads have been using them.

Hybrid would be nice, we set the cruise and let the electric engine do the work. If we need power, then the diesel kicks in.

Hydrogen would be the ideal engine, but The infrastructure is not there. They should make passenger vehicles all electric and save the fuel for semis, trains and airplanes
