Electronic mirrors. Hate them or love them?

Is this the system using video screens not actual mirrors? I too would prefer mirrors.

 

They're a lot better than mirrors from what little I've seen of the ones we have on the yard. The brightness can be adjusted. There's day/night settings too.

 

The post office gig i had a few years back had them. Things were awful. Sure you can adjust the brightness but i have glasses and the glare of electronics regardless of brightness combined with my astigmatism make them an absolute nightmare. Even in daylight conditions. At night they are near unusable. And god help you if you got snow and/or ice buildup on them from say freezing fog. Even with the heater they became a blurry mess in seconds or that salty nasty spray would cover the lense and make it a blurred barely useable mess.

Ill take my 1.5% fuel pentalty thanks. Frankly the #### things from MY experince need to be banned as unsafe.

 

Do the digital mirror camera lens need cleaning?

 

Occasionally, just wipe it with your fingertip & microfiber rag. No cleaners or anything. A driver I know in one of those trucks says in a driving rain where the west coast mirrors are somewhat sketchy and unusable the video of the sides of the unit is crystal clear visibility.

 

There does seem a tendency to relace everything from the past with something electronic. And to honest they would not get approved if the fogged or water blocked their visibility. Glare at night was my biggest concern as my double din radio does a poor job at that, not dimming enough and nothing can be done to make it better beside sheet the screen with ? The conversion for me fell apart when they physically don't fit on the A pillar. Even the small ones at 530mm were to big, and created a blind spot in a location that makes the west coasts look good.

 

Why do we need computer screens instead of mirrors. Mirrors have worked for thousands of years now. Solutions to problems that never existed
