I'm looking at used day cabs. I have a choice between 4 engines. They all have 800,000 plus. I'm looking for reliable, low maintenance.
1. DD60 12L
2. Mack Mp7
3. Cummins isx
4. Cummins ism

We use series 60 Detroits and they have 700k. Not too much trouble.

Isx are costly to rebuild a cat is cheaper now. I just replaced my signature Cummins wanted $45k local shop $35. Mine had to be updated so new everything. I found a used one with 350k on it for $9k plus about 10 in injectors and bearings plus labor to put in. The paperwork on the one I bought said $28k for its rebuild 3 years ago. If I had to do over again I'd find a truck with a 60 series in it. Reliable rebuilds not that expensive compaired to others and get good fuel mileage.
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
If that's a egr isx I think it's reaching its life excpectancy from what I hear.

The ISM is only a 10.8L engine. Not sure what the MP7 is (Google says 11L). Depending on what you plan to use the truck for they might be on the small side.

800,000 miles? Have any been rebuilt? If not, they're going to need a rebuild in the next 50-100k miles.
Out of the selection, the Series 60 Detroit is by far the best and most reliable motor there. -

Thanks for all the replies! I was leaning towards the DD60 so I think that's been confirmed. I'll be running local ltl p&d, pulling 53' dry vans, maybe 120 miles a day. The DD60's are in 2007 Sterlings (from Conway), with 7 speed Fuller trans. I've never driven anything but a 10 or 13 speed but I hear the 7 speeds are good for this kind of city driving.
