We are replacing the engine in our 2013 Freightliner Cascade. First Cascade we’ve ever bought. Do we have to put in a 2013 DD15? If not, what determines what engine we can put in it?

Generally you replace with what it was built with. Installing a different make of engine is always possible but seldom economically feasible because a fair amount of custom work needs to be done to get it to fit, adapt and work with the rest of the truck. Custom engine mounts, OEM wiring harness and piping needs to be fitted in order to get a different engine to fit and work. Sometimes custom programing needs to be done as well to get the engine and cab computers to talk to each other. Most shops do not get into this degree of customization.

Are you asking can you replace it with any DD15?
