I just noticed that I was on this thread back in 2019 when I said I was going to leave FedEx Ground. I never did .

Seems like a good place to post this, I had an offer from Estes to run Linehaul out of the Hammond, LA terminal back in January but decided to go with Southeastern Freight since they were closer to home. I don't want to be home daily, would prefer to run at least 5 days out at a time which Estes and Southeastern both offered. Of course, after I take the job at Southeastern they eliminated the 5 days out run at my local terminal and now I'm home almost daily and barely making over 2000 miles a week. So I regret not taking the Estes position.

How is Estes running extra board now? Can you stay out all week? What kind of miles can one expect? Will probably look at contacting recruiting soon. There are no listed linehaul positions open at my nearest terminal (Hammond, LA) but figured I'd at least have my name in line for when a spot opens.

I was recently going through the hiring process in Dallas and the terminal manager said they still stay out 5 days and home 2 or you can stay out longer if you want.

Hammond is a very small terminal with no shop. It's all dirt and gravel too. Here, you can run as many miles and stay out as long as you please. You have a set schedule on extra board but you can do whatever you want.

If you're familiar with central dispatch like I was, you can manipulate the system to sometimes go wherever you want too. I miss running the road at times.

Estes has an opening for an over the road driver in my area. Is there a lot of nighttime driving involved with this?

    Extra board?

Yeah. Your start time is going to be late PM. It might flip back around later in the week but it's mostly night driving.

Depends... I never drove nights on the board and I ran it 3 years. 95% of my extra board time was on days no lie. I run out of a big terminal tho and I was really cool with central for what it's worth.

    Bumper and 59EX Thank this.
