Anybody using this tire? $363 a tire, 16ply, Japanese made by Sumitomo. Formerly under the Ohtsu brand name...

I ran some Falkens on a Porsche 944S and thought that they were awesome car tires esp in the rain.

This is the first I've heard about them in the truck market, I'm dead sold on Michelin steers over 200K miles on my last 3 pairs....I'm just not big on cheap tires, esp steers.
Not much help on your question just my $.02.

A lot of times cheap equals crappy, I agree. Hit a deer, needed a steer and made some calls....

Nobody wants to make deals on premium name brand tires, especially when they know your choices are kind of limited...

I asked the tire guy on my cell phone if he wanted to sell a couple tires or just mount my spare....

"I'm going to need some value if I'm buying two new tires through a road call, I'm strongly in favor of just mounting my spare and shopping around. Do you have something that might get me thinking about buying two tires from you?"

    And the Falkens were offered....

    16ply, Japanese made....

What the hell, only way to find out is by running them. Guess I'm the guinea pig in this experiment....

Ohtsu weren't well regarded down here in FL. I've got over 200k on the Goodyear 399's that are on my truck now. If I wanted to deal with a directional tire, I'd have the Michelins. Steers are too important to cheap out on.

I had some Yoko's that were wearing really well, 70k or so and they were wearing perfectly, had 15/32-16/32 tread depth....then we hit a deer and the bumper got bent into the steer, ripping a big section of tread off. I was bluffing when I was telling the tire shop about mounting the spare. Didn't have one to mount, but I do know...lol...

I'd love to get 200k out of a set of steer tires.

At least that deer only took out a bumper, a tire, an air cleaner, and cracked the fiberglass....wow, can't believe I used the word "only" in that sentence.
