I remember strapping a load at the Charlotte Pipe yard in Cedar City a few years back when another truck backed up and hooked the trailer next to me. Ordinary sunny day in the summer. Guy gets out, starts doing his thing. Say hi, not really paying attention to him, just business as usual. Then I see a puppy when I'm near the back of the trailer. Puppy attached by a leash to a little boy, maybe 5 or 6 years old. Then a little girl, maybe 7 or 8. Then mom. Hmmm, I think. That's unusual.
Talk to the guy a little more, he volunteers that the family's out in the truck with him for a month for summer vacation. I tell him that's really nice, hope they're enjoying themselves, etc. Drive away thinking there's no way on earth I would have my wife and two little kids and a puppy in a Cascadia mid-roof for a month. I have a hard enough time with just the wife in the truck for an overnight trip, and I like her a lot.
