I had a small circle of friends in high school, we had our own table at lunch, the outcasts, nerds, whatever you wish to call us.
My passion was cars, one was a very good artist, one a great BS artist who became a great car salesman, and a lifetime friend.
Several others were unremarkable, but one thing in common, we weren't the popular jocks, or big man on campus with the cheerleader on their arm.
That was our bond, our defense mechanism.
One of them, we will call him Roger, was not effeminate, but not masculine either. Didn't really get picked on, but was quiet and socially awkward.
He killed himself about 6 months after high school, leaving a note about the fact he couldn't deal with the fact he was gay, which none of us suspected in the least. This was in the early 1970's.
I have experienced a couple of individuals who committed suicide, mostly in the prime of their lives.
Not a day doesn't go by that I wish I couldn't go back and talk to them 5 minutes before the deed.

A lot of these kids being bullied think that they’re on their own with no one to talk to or no other way out. They’re sometimes too embarrassed to talk about it especially with their parents, let alone persons with authority at the schools for fear of retaliation by further bullying. They’re practically on the brink.
There were days in junior high where I contemplated thoughts of suicide but didn’t go through with it because of the grief it would’ve caused for those I would’ve left behind,in particular my mother.
Kids can be cruel in more ways than one-even more so now with the advent of social media!
We as adults have to do better to talk to these children and nip this issue in the bud!
When there are 10 year old children committing suicide that is a major problem!Magoo1968, Bud A., Cowboyrich and 4 others Thank this. -
The only thing bullies understand is strength. Most are cowards.

Their bullying is because they have inadequacies they're trying to cover up.Cowboyrich and mjd4277 Thank this.

I have to disagree with you. The young man should have been taught to stand up for himself because once someone starts running away there is no stopping. Running will be lifelong. The basic thing about all bullies is that they love to inflict pain, but hate to receive it. My granddaughter is a case in point. I've told this story before, but it's worth mentioning again. When she was 12 or 13 there was this male kid that kept picking on her. She kept telling him to leave her alone, but he didn't. She went to her teacher and told her what was going on. The teacher did nothing. One day this kid started his crap again, and she doubled up her fist and planted it right on that kids snot locker. It brought blood, and the kid started crying. She was the one who got in trouble, but to this day that kid has never bothered her. She graduates next week. Valedictorian I might add.

Las Vegas sixth grader, 12, commits suicide after constant bullying at school: family
~
The parents failed their daughter by not pulling her out of that school permanently. She had no one to turn to for help, including her parents.Last edited: May 18, 2024
