This used to much worse , I have a good friend in his early 70s that retired out of trucking about 6 years ago and had been driving since his early 20s and he once commented to me that when he started drivers died of " old age in theyre mid 40s " from lack of sleep , poor diet , smoking and uppers prescribed by doctors .

That’s why I went to regional. I told myself before I drove a truck that I didn’t want to be OTR for 40 years. I want to have a good and healthy life too. That’s why after 2 years of OTR in the bag I went this direction. Being out for only 5 maybe 6 days max at a time. Almost always being a days drive or less from home if something major were to happen. I can even eat better as I’m only out for the aforementioned 5 days. Sure I make less than I would if I was OTR but 75k a year is still good money, especially where I live cost of living is pretty cheap. I was raised poor so being able to afford things like a good reliable vehicle is a godsend to me.

Getting burned out is pretty easy if you work yourself to death, but there is a balance. You have to find that balance and find ways to enjoy life if your just doing work work work it'll burn you out. Got to do something you like when your not working. Anyways if I can manage to make more money than before and get my goals reached I might be able to build a house In about 5 years and just pay cash. Just need to get land. It would be nice anyway. Might just be dreaming lol. Anyway I want to get a place and be debt free and live easy work less have more time for other things as well.

The life expectancy of an OTR driver is still like 56, so you beat the odds.

Who needs a gym? Stop being a door slamming box hauler and pull open deck instead, it's more of a workout than any gym could give you.

That's how old I was when I went open deck, so I guess I'm living on borrowed time :mshocked:
Or maybe I've already died and open deck is a truck driver's purgatory.

My dad died less than 6 months after he fully retired, his dad died less than 3 months after he retired(he was only in his early 60's)...neither were truck drivers but worked blue collar labor jobs...our family seems to be destined to work or die...so, that's why I say, I'll never retire because I don't want to die.
