Why would you wanna make as much as a company driver only as an lease/owner operator?… Is that $1000 a week on your settlement checks?

    MidWest_MacDaddy and Goody3635 Thank this.

$1,000/week after all expenses, including taxes. I gross about $1400/week right now without taxes, but i believe you pay more taxes on 1099 vs W2

Not to mention having to set aside extra money in a maintenance account in case you have some big repairs like @runningman0661 did last year.

You have to set aside at least 25%. That’s what many do for taxes…

that’s no joke either… Especially with this emissions crap that will definitely bankrupt somebody if they don’t have the funds to be able to survive that

I believe some money is set aside in a maintenance account to begin with. I don’t know if i’m over or underestimating how much money i can realistically expect to take home. Right now as company driver i make $5,600-$6,000/month before taxes (this is on regional, i made more when i was OTR). If I can make the same amount on lease after expenses, set aside 25% for taxes, that’s about $4,200/month on the bottom end.

I believe quite a ways back i asked what LO’s/OO’s were making per month but i can’t remember at all who responded or what was said

The difference for being a company, driver and an owner operator regarding taxes is that you pay both your personal side and the business side of the taxes… As a company driver, you only get hit with the employee side of the taxes…

My opinion doesn’t mean much, I believe if someone wants a truck it’s better to save up a down payment and get one on their own. I wouldn’t want to make a payment and pay for maintenance on something that doesn’t have my name on the title.

A walk away lease is low risk, low reward which is why the failure rate is high. Less incentive to make things work when someone has no skin in the game. Versus knowing it’s up to you and your choices to make things work when you sign your name at the bank.

this isn’t a walk away lease. They don’t lease to any Joe Schmo on the corner
