FCC--Fremont Contract Carriers

Not really, I just have never taken a Volvo OTR. Plenty of daycabbing, and did some occasional overnight stuff in an older small sleeper Volvo with SYGMA. I have driven pretty much every kind of common truck made since 1999 or so. Pete 359/379/389, KW T600/680/700/800, W900L

Int 9400/9300/9900ix. A handful of cabovers, but never a real OTR Volvo.

 

Have driven a 670, but never an 860. Would love to try one out someday.

 

The tight steering is a problem for me and the ride on these ones with the lane keep assist it's very tight because that system keeps turning on even if you turn it off every 15 minutes. It's a bunch of garbage.

 

The Volvo 860 I had at SPD only rode slightly better than this Crapcadia. Years ago I drove the original Volvo 770, and it rode like a cloud, but it floated all over the road and the cab leaned like it was gonna roll off the frame when you went around a curve. Maybe that's why the put a sway bar the size of my wrist on the front axle which stiffened the ride a whole lot

 

Must be the way FCC specs their trucks then. The ride between a Cascadia and 860 is night and day. The steering is a lot heavier than it as well which I like. Better visibility, bigger mirrors.

The only thing that will take some time getting used to is the transmission and how to operate it

 

Glad to see Cris back into the trucking world. I was a stocker at the Dillon’s store in Junction City Ks for about 6 months in high school and it sucked $$). Just hope they don’t talk him into another lease.

 

Good luck on your new union gig. I don't know what union represents you but the Teamsters represented me. It allowed me to retire in April 2024 at age 60 with a full pension and retiree medical benefits. All the best to you.

Thanks you got it. That’s who it’ll be after probation. Not gonna make 100k a year maybe but hopefully better hours and treatment than otr driver.
