My response too this was deleted for some unknown reason. I just thought it comical referring

    to them as "super fast."

There was also a major court decision issued this week regarding the FEDEX contractor classification. I'm not a lawyer but in my opinion a contractor must take care of his own equipment and taxes, insurance no paid overtime and such where as FEDEX freight is more of a conventional employer/maintained fleet job.

I worked for fed ex freight for a year as a road driver. When you start there they put you on what they call an extra board. You are an extra driver and they will call you as needed. You will start out working nights, probably doing a 150 to 200 mile run working the dock for 5-6 hours then driving back to home terminal. You will be at the bottom of the board for years and work nights for a long time. The reason is the people that are already there have a lot of seniority. You bid on runs and you bid with seniority if you are the new guy you get what is left after everyone else is done. my dad has worked for them for 25 years good pay but a bunch of be to put up with. Its they are looking for a reason to fire you.

Just an quick question about fed-ex and I'll leave ya alone... Why do a lot of the FedEx trucks have that plastic sheeting coming out from under the trailer door? A securiity thing perhaps? It makes the trailer look as though it has it's shirt tail pulled out.

oh, also I wonder how many FedEx people know about the "arrow" in the FedEx logo.

Probably a new scam for fuel economy being pimped and lobbied by its manufacturer and will be mandated in the future.

EDITED;;;;;;I TOTALLY MISREAD THE QUESTION. THOUGHT YOU MEANT TRAILER SKIRTS.

I'm not sure what it is either. Just looks like shrink wrap or stretch film or whatever you call hanging out from under the door. I have only seen it on the ground trailers not on freight trailers. Maybe something to do with how they load the loose packages in the trailer?

New here... my buddy wants me to buy into a fedex line haul with him. Home every day, pulling doubles. All night work. I'm not too familiar with fedex and their biz model but seems pretty good being home everyday.any opinions?

Hi folks, new to the forum here...
6 Speed is correct, the plastic you see is a rain shield: roll up doors take a real beating as they go down the road, and after a while you can develop a little slop at the gap as the door bounces with the road surface as you drive. I saw a lot of freight get wet when the rain shield was not in place, or even incorrectly placed. That shield actually rises inside the trailer door by a couple feet, and is usually tied at the corners to the rear D-rings.
As far as whether to drive for FedEx Freight, you will have to make the call: I may be a little too vocal on this, but I'm very passionate about it, because I've left a lot of good friends behind there. I left FedEx Freight last November after 18 years. I had every intention of retiring with the company, because as recent as 5 years ago, it was a different company, although already evolving (FedEx Freight was actually formed out of the purchase of two major LTL carriers, Viking Freight System, where I began, and American Freightways). I was a P&D driver, but that doesn't matter, they treat everyone equally badly now. At my former service center, they've lost roughly 20 employees in the last 9-12 months, from clerical, dockworkers, and drivers, to even supervisors. And this is happening everywhere. if you don't mind my saying, several of them have ended up at Old Dominion, and seem very happy there, as well as Diamond Delivery. I've got no stake in either of them, I ended up at a small transportation department of a healthcare organization/hospital system, along with 3 of my former colleagues!

OD and Fedx seemed to have traded attitudes towards employees.
