Right now, there's a pretty big problem of carriers impersonating others, and they don't even have to reprogram the cars. They show up to pick up a car that was listed on one of the load boards, as if they were the carrier that booked the car. It gets loaded and never seen again.
Frank Abignale in his book Catch Me if You Can, (they also made a movie,) said the biggest key to scamming people out of money and stuff is just acting confident. A lot of people get watched before they ever do anything because they are already acting suspicious before hand. Nowadays with mobile mechanics and what not I probably wouldn’t look twice at someone seeming to be working on a car in a parking lot or something if they weren’t acting suspicious.
