Lower landing gear until air hisses as bags level. Release truck brake after getting a wedge, chock or rock or some #### under the tire so it cant roll off. Dump airbags and while its deflateing pull on handle hard while moving side to side incsse its bound up. Odds are good it should release as its coming down.
Once trailer is off. Flip plate degrease it as best you can then take it to a shop and have its.play and release handle inspectedAFC, tscottme and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Looks like it closed without a pin in it. So your gonna have pull out unlock both handles and turn the jaw to the open position.
When unhooking the king pin pulls the jaw open the release lever just unlocks it. So if the jaw moves to the close position then nothing is there to move it to the open position when you pull the handle back out.
Thats what it looks like in the pics anyway that the pin is just hitting the back of the jaw and stopping.SmallPackage, cke, AFC and 3 others Thank this. -
Looks like an RGN, they don't have landing gear.AFC, Sons Hero, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this.

Ah i missed that part. On my phone and didnt check the thumbnails. That said advice is still good, just unsure how to do it on that style of trailer. You basically want to get the weight off the plate as much as you canAFC and Rideandrepair Thank this.

I'm confused what is going on, information seems conflicting.
Are you trying to hook or unhook from the trailer? Maybe walk us thru what has happened here.
And what did you hope to accomplish by driving on blocks?AFC, Sons Hero, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this. -
I’m not there to see exactly what you’re working with, but why not put the blocks under the trailer and dump your air? Seems to me that would make more sense than driving the tractor up onto blocks…

Appreciate everyone’s advice. I was able to get it locked though not too sure what did the trick. In case this happens to someone down the road, here’s the whole of it: I use my flip neck which makes the whole connecting and disconnecting a chore. The flip neck sits low and in the past I would have issues with just closing the jaws. I would back under the flip neck with bags dropped if that doesn’t work then I would raise air bags as I’m trying to connect and sometimes that doesn’t work. So it’s an ongoing issue especially on bad ground. Hate mechanical necks. This time I couldn’t disconnect after getting the kingpin inside the fifth wheel and the jaws wouldn’t close. In the past I had blocked trailer and this time as well this time that didn’t work. In the past I have drove on dunnage and that has worked. This time tried dunnage with driving on it and the trailer and it didn’t work. Finally I drove a little forward, a little back and right and left plus driving on the dunnage with my drives. Something here worked when I went back to check the safety latch closed. The reason of driving on the dunnage is because the fifth wheel and apron not making good contact is what I learned from another RGN driver that helped me one time. Hope this helps.

That much grease in the jaws is never necessary. It just causes everything to stick and bind up. The only part of the jaws that need grease is the inside surface that clamps around the pin. The rest of it doesn’t touch anything and becomes dirt filled gooey glue.
Star Rider Thanks this.
