Get the Florida CDL converted first, do the hazmat background and then do the hazmat test once it comes back. The background is tied to your license number so you need to have your Florida license issued first.

You will need to get fingerprinted by a TSA-approved office, if you pass the background check, take the HazMat test as part of your license application. The background check and written HazMat test will have to be done every time you renew your license.

If you want the HazMat endorsement on your license, do the fingerprint/background check first. If you don't pass, there's no sense taking the written test.

Additionally, pre-COVID, it could take up to 30 days to get the background check done. I have no idea how long it takes now.

Do the background first. I just renewed my HM and I got my letter back in a week and a half.

Born and raised in FL till I was 26. DHS does the background check, not the state.

Find a location and book appointments for fingerprinting at TSA.

Honestly FL is a tough place for trucks. When I did brokering we paid deadhead rates out. FL is also lower pay than most states. So I wish you luck.

    Jmelendez1223 and McUzi Thank this.
