You mean the same kind of common sense you would use to not respond to the first post in a four year old topic without reading the following 129 posts?

"Alot of police officers get shot and killed everyday with their own weapons also"

Really? Where is the proof of this? Our job is far more dangerous than theirs, many more of us are killed in the line of duty than them. Making a statement such as that you should back it up with proof. We've had a few cops killed here in Philly over the last few years and none were with their own weapon nor has it happened on a daily basis. What a crock...

Sigh... I own guns at home. I do not carry them in the truck because it is against the law.

While I disagree with gun control extremists (only the criminal armed, right?), and I do believe and will fight for my constitutional right to keep and bear arms, I can see many reasons why it is a bad idea for the average citizen to go walking around with pistols on their person. It boils down to need (not phobias), training and common sense.

I do not want some nervous, itchy finger, scared, untrained citizen armed and walking down the street or across the truckstop ahead of me... day or night. Given the tempers that flare, both on and off the road a lot of people should never carry a gun.

Personal protection is a valid reason to register, obtain training and permit to carry. I do believe, however, that training should go beyond ability to shoot straight. It should also assess the mental ability of the licensee to keep a cool head and apply leathal force, and the knowledge &/or common sense to determine when that force is necessary.

Law enforment officers go through years of education, training before they even become "rookies". There are, I hope & believe, a lot more good cops out there than bad ones. Of course, in any sampling of people from any walk of life, you have the "good" and the "bad", but I digress....

While it is not necessarily true in all cases, I'd like to render a quote from a John Wayne movie at the end of "The Angel & the Badman". Quirt (John Wayne) has quit gunslinging to get married & be a farmer. The telegrapher comments that "Quirt might need that." (his gun), which the marshall has just picked up out of the dust. The marshal says "No. Only a man who carries one ever needs one."

It is NOT against the law to carry a firearm in your truck. The laws of the state you are in prevail. I have a concealed weapons permit and carry on my person at all times it is legal for me to do so. I can tell you that it has been my experience that most police officers only fire their weapon when they have to re-qualify each year. All of the people I know who carry a firearm practice far more often than police.

You have done what you need to do (training, permit, etc.) to make your gun carrying legal. I have not. With the way this country is going, I would rather the powers that be don't even know about my guns. If I was to put one in my truck (correct me if I'm wrong) and an officer found it concealed in my bunk, that's an illegal firearm. LOL, now if I unload it, lock it up, lock ammunition separately, and declared it to any officer who stopped me I guess that'd be legal. But then, what good is it? Don't get me wrong. I refer you to my 1st paragraph; I'm not anti-gun at all. Some people can be dangerous with or without a gun :)

Last response was for Grizzly. This one is for Ken. LOL, unless you're saying I'm totally off base with the whole thing, can you be a little more specific? With what specifically do you have a problem? "Only those who carry them need them"? I have a problem with someone seeing an altercation and come roaring in, waving his gun with misinformation about who's the bad guy, and perhaps shooting the wrong person! Appropriate training and common sense might prevent the tragedy.

well what if you wanted to take some off days, away from home, and go shoot your gun somewhere safe?

then you could carry it secured and unloaded.

Your state allows concealed (or open) carry without a permit now, just FYI.
