for future reference, if your in a situation like that you can run 15 miles down the road without an alternator belt to keep from paying for a road call

its not being called smart--its called being prepared and basic knowledge and common sense--but unless you tow a complete truck--you will never have enough spare parts
tools -oil-coolant belts filter and lights are just about all you can take with out having too much

    Thanks...

I wasn't going to take a chance of damaging brand new batteries that I just spent 400.00 dollars on less than a month before. And the shop guys had told me I was lucky I didn't burn up the AC because I had run it when it had that bracket broke. They said it only takes a minute to burn it up. So with that said, I was not going to take a chance and maybe ruin the alternator.

Just because someone doesn't know something....as far as mechanical....never mind. It's not worth it.

its just part of the job--you learn as you go--doing some of the little stuff like that will save you a lot of money
your bateries would be ok--once the voltage gets to around 12v--the truck will shut off however
and the alternator will run fine on one belt--providing it is tight
and if you by spare belts-make sure you get a matched set
its kinda a live and learn thing

15 minutes up the road to the shop shouldn't hurt the batteries. Just shut down as much of the electronics as possible... it's not like a car needing juice for ignition - you just need enough to keep the ECM, etc. running.

Before ECMS you could run quite awhile off the batteries , shut off all the UNNEEDED stuff and head for the shop or a spot ( top of a long hill ) to carryout the repair yourself.

Get used to it.You think you are an O/O,but in reality you are just driving and paying for repairs on one of Swifts junkyard specials.I have posted this before but here it goes again. If you wanna be an O/O go to a reputable dealer and buy a truck with a nice down payment and your good credit to back you up.If you dont have a down payment or good credit you better keep on driving a company truck.THese lese purchase programs are a big joke.A good deal for the company that leases them out,but a bad deal for the saps who sign the lease and try to make a living with it.Just remember a couple of things,it takes money to make money, and although you might picture yourself as a true O/O you are still driving one of their trucks, with all of the headaches that go with it.
