Buy a trucker atlas, learn use it, and then cross check info from nav devices. Trucks and maps and plain ole phone worked great for many years and still do.
Write down stuff- weights/ distance/people places things/
If your in trucking long you'll have a reference for different parts of the country for all sorts of stuff( ie- repairs, food,shopping)
Make a budget and stick to it
Less talk, more watching, and respectfulness will go a long way .
Remember- a good days start can go bad, but a bad days start never improves.

From what I have seen......
Take up smoking.
Get some tattoos.
Forget how to/refuse to learn the English language.
Don't eat anything remotely healthy.
Dump piss out on the parking lot every time you stop. Every time.
