Your buying a rebuilt wreck for a few bucks less than a new truck.

From my understanding you’re buying a factory brand spanking new cab, with a rebuilt engine and tranny. Engine and trans could be from a wreck.

    Dont forget differential.:biggrin_25525:
Truck looks new..but you'll be replacing motor trans and differential in short order.

Egad that's a hachet job article ...but if they take away gliders many of us will just completely recondition our trucks and rebuild them until we retire ...limiting gliders will not limit the number of these engines on the road

A rolling glider has differentials and I would argue those engine are rebuilt down to the core theoretically a 12.7 or 6nz taken care of is good for a Mt least 700k after a rebuild like that

    ABOUT FITZGERALD GLIDER KITS
Fitzgerald Glider Kits is North America’s largest and most trusted Glider Kit assembler.
Fitzgerald Glider Kits specializes in installing the remanufactured main components (engine, transmission and/or rear ends) from a donor truck that was either wrecked or unsafe for the road, into a new cab and chassis built by the OEM. We offer Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner and Western Star Glider Kits with pre-emission Detroit, Cummins and Caterpillar engine options. This process creates a reliable, more fuel efficient truck that requires less maintenance, yields less downtime and has the safety features and amenities owners have come to expect in trucks on the road today.

Fitzgerald Glider Kits also offers one of the best Nationwide Warranties for their kits and has over 1,000 approved service shops and over 150 Preferred Service Centers across the US.

The company is based in central Tennessee and produces more than 3,500 trucks per year. They offer various models of the Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, and Western Star brands.

    A FAMILY BUSINESS
Fitzgerald Glider Kits was founded in 1989, by Tommy Fitzgerald Sr. and his Brother, Ricky Fitzgerald. The two Brothers drove OTR for more than a decade before opening up their own service facility and assembling their first Glider Kit.

Out of that one bay facility located in Pall Mall, TN, they were tasked by a local owner operator with taking crucial components out from their wrecked truck (engine, transmission and/or rears) and transferring them into a new cab and chassis. The owner op had no other choice as he was unable to afford a new truck at the time. The job was a success and they were able to get back on the road in a truck without the financial burden of having to purchase a new truck.

Tommy and Ricky knew there was a need in the industry for a quality built Glider Kit that was reliable and a solid economical option for smaller companies and fleets. They took the knowledge they learned on the road and the skills in the shop and over the years continued to improve these Gliders. Their goal was to assemble a truck that was easy to service, capable of getting better fuel mileage and very reliable.

Almost 30 years later, you can still find the two of them around our facilities looking for innovative and economical ways to improve our Glider Kits. The company is still privately held with with the two founders, Robert Fitzgerald, Tommy Fitzgerald Jr and longtime family friend & associate, Nick Bresaw as partners. Their hard work, commitment and perseverance has paid off and they have been able to build Fitzgerald Glider Kits into industry leader status, offering premiere highway and vocational Glider Kits.

Fitzgerald Glider Kits knows that a truck needs to operate up to and beyond its “useful life”. A well assembled Glider gives small businesses, fleets and owner operators the ability to minimize downtime, decrease overall fuel consumption and provide the driver today’s amenities and key safety features. We stand behind our work and are proud to offer one of the industry’s best Nationwide Warranty Programs.
