Pieces of space junk from a Russian satellite coming out of orbit narrowly missed hitting a jetliner over the Pacific Ocean overnight.

The pilot of a Lan Chile Airbus A340, which was travelling between Santiago, Chile, and Auckland, New Zealand, notified air traffic controllers at Auckland Oceanic Centre after seeing flaming space junk hurtling across the sky just five nautical miles in front of and behind his plane about 10pm last night.

I wonder if the in-flight movie on that flight was "Armageddon"?

Firey metal debris hurtling towards the ground is probably the last thing you want to see when your flying over the pacific ocean.

    That's true, lol.

I enjoy flying, but the first time I flew over an ocean was itimidating. You look down and see nothing but water and white caps.

I've yet to fly over either ocean, but I'm sure it would be intimidating. One of these days I wanna go to Australia. It'd be awesome to ride a horse through the Outback.

Oh yeah, it will be awesome alright, until a crocadile eats your horse and a posionous snake jumps out of a tree and attacks you. Don't you watch Animal Planet?
