Got an opportunity to do some lumber loads going East (PA, NJ, MA, ETC......). Does anyone know what kind of rates a person should charge on loads as these? Also loads have to be tarped.

$4-6 per mile, it's getting hot out here. After the Labor Day we gonna see the best season in many years
-
Yea, you better not cut yourself short going up that way. Especially having to tarp.
-
Not all, but most lumber shippers don't pay enough to put their product on my truck. Lumber is best left to TMC, Melton and Maverick. Especially if it has to be tarped.

Lexington, KY market is showing 137 loads to 1 truck in flatbed segment 3,565 loads to 26 trucks as of yesterday. Looks like you can be charging whatever you want with an imbalance like that. That lumber ought to be paying high dollar. If it isn't then it shouldn't be too hard to find something that is.

Thanks fellows, I am liking the reports. Now, if I move along with this ideal I will be looking to purchase a trailer, that is if they were to except my rate. Any thoughts on some of the ideal trailers out there? Been a lot of years since I pulled a flatbed. I have pulled refer for about 30 years (more or less).

No less than 4 a mile cuz that's what dry boxes are commanding up here.
Where my dads leased to they do a lot of plastic pipe. Most people think it doesn't pay but after the carriers cut my dad still gets 4.05-4.20ish and fsc. All short hauls 300mi max and come home empty.
Don't short sell yourself I know a brokerage pushing 6000 lb van loads 330 mi to ayres ma from Nichols ny for 1500 a rip. As many as you can handle -
