Hey guys I'm about to start a new job tomorrow
The truck is a 5 speed 27 foot hino.
What rpm do I shift at? My boss said I can float gears on this truck

First trucks I ever drove, back in the eighties were Hinos.
I never really look at the tach, just the sound of the engine will tell you all you need to know, -
Probably not. If it is a synchro transmission, not using the clutch is possible, but it will destroy it fast. Little trucks seldom have big transmissions.
Samuelh, Redtwin, Tb0n3 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'd make sure its not a synchronized transmission first.
-
I would not do it. Not on those little trucks.
Ive driven a couple of merchedes in my time small box trucks and those you shift normally.
This obsession with floating will destroy some transmissions over time. It has it's place here and there in specific sitautions but it's not a status symbol of a bad mutha trucker. bleah. -
I have to agree with what's been said.
I don't think I ever drove a small truck that should be shifted without the clutch. -
I don’t know exactly where to shift those trucks but I’m pretty sure you’ll have it figured out by the end of the first day. Using the clutch in those little trucks makes the shift process very forgiving. It won’t much care what the rpm is.

In my time 95 was not blacktopped yet in maryland. That little merchedes box truck being empty had this horrible hop hop hop on every plate.
I almost list my cookies. I had to make believe I was on the bay in the chop to get through that.
