Yeh right, catching criminals is the justification for it, bit like speed cameras keeping us all safe. Its looking more like data collection and who wants to buy it. Kind of like like legally being hacked.
I turn all tracking stuff off on my phone, or as much as I'm aware of, I don't see the daily benefits of someone knowing where I am at al times. They say if you doing nothing wrong you have nothing to hide, and that is true, but its that someone distrusts you and follows you just in case. Bet you will never see one of those cameras outside a police car park, council building, defense installation or government building. Only in places the dishonest grace.

I would assume those are the property of the owner of the range. I can kinda be ok with property owners using these at their discretion. If these are owned by the range, what information I wonder do they have access to, and who else has access to it?
I wouldn't frequent a business that has these installed. The local Wal Mart has several. I don't go there. -
I saw a news clip today that these had been removed by the owner after public backlash. I can understand wanting security cameras but license plate readers that who even knows who all can access them is a little bit much.Sons Hero, Oxbow, Deere hunter and 3 others Thank this.

I agree 100%. I've heard several gun ranges in eastern AR also have them.Oxbow and Savor the Flavor Thank this.

We used to have them in my hometown but they were deactivated when they violated due process laws in Illinois.Oxbow, drvrtech77 and Savor the Flavor Thank this.

Y'all should have listened when they name themselves after the evil spying crystal balls from the Lord of the Rings. People like to think that they name these things not knowing the source material but they are deliberately telling you what they are and you aren't listening.

Ah, my bad it's just another dystopian mega spying apparatus. Could have sworn flock and palantir were relatedLast edited: Aug 9, 2026
Gearjammin' Penguin and gentleroger Thank this. -
haveibeenflocked.com is a site that compiles police logs that were leaked or released pursuant to FOIA requests. You can enter your personal vehicle plate number and, possibly, see whether a cop has looked up your license plate. Mine indicated that two queries were made on me just over a year ago; for what, I've no idea. I've half a mind to contact that PD and ask what the hell they were doing looking for me, but I'm holding my tongue.
MACK E-6 Thanks this. -
They'll flip the script, "so why are you so concerned that we checked your plate? Did you do something wrong? You're acting very suspicious"
